WAYE LEADS THE WAY IN ASSISTS; CAVS FALL 3-1 TO CATAWBA

The UVA Wise Cavaliers fell to the Catawba Indians today in the David J. Prior Convocation Center, to a score of 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-14).

The UVA Wise Cavaliers (4-13, 0-10 SAC) displayed a passionate effort in the first set, exchanging point-by-point with the Indians for almost the entirety of the set. Once each team hit the 22nd point, Morgan Blevins and Adison Minor of the Cavs took control and finalized the match's outcome with three consecutive kills to win 25-23.

In the second set, the Indians switched gears and went on a six-point run. The Cavs responded with their own five-point run led by a Blevins kill to even the playing field. The Indians didn't let the Cavs go on a run for long though, as their heavy hitters Kylie Morgan and Ashley Johnson slammed the ball on the Cavs' side of the court as much as they could to secure the win. The Indians were able to keep the Cavs to a 17-point total and took the W for the second set.

In the third set, each team once again exchanged points and put forth equal efforts until Catawba hit their 16th point. The Cavs were sentenced to a crucial five-point rally by the Indians to give them the lead 20-14. The Cavs wouldn't let up, and Rylee Waye assisted teammates Blevins, Minor, and Kelsey Green to get them within a point. Yet, a service error by the Cavs and a Catawba kill ended the third set 25-23 in the Indians' favor.

In the final, Catawba went on a five-point run that occurred in the first few volleys of the set. Although Blevins and Minor produced kills, Catawba set the tone for the set with their beginning rally and kept the Cavs at an 11-point deficit to finish out the match.

Minor led the night with a personal season-high 16 kills, with teammate Blevins snagging the same amount. Waye led the way with 30 assists on the night, also scoring a personal season-high. Lastly, Cana Davidson ended the night with 15 digs for the Cavs.

Next, the Cavs will play the Wingate University Bulldogs on Friday, Oct. 15 at the David J. Prior Convocation Center.
