Box Score MARYVILLE, TENN. — The UVA Wise Highland Cavaliers men's tennis team swept the Maryville College Scots today, winning 9-0.
Starting off singles play was Cavalier Jake Ferner, who defeated opponent Kyle Shaver of the Scots by scores of 6-4, 7-5. In the No. 2 spot, Dominic Hoffman grabbed a W against Keshawn Haynes, outscoring him 6-1, 6-0. In No. 3 singles play, Coleton Burke beat Scot Ben Wyrick 6-0, 6-2. Luke Jarnigan also scored an easy win, defeating his opponent Cooper Newman 6-0, 6-0. John Robert Kilgore and Dylan Galenski ended the Cavs effort with wins against their respective opponents Jonah Hedges and Seth Green to give keep them undefeated.
In doubles play, duo Ferner and Hoffman outscored Shaver and Newman 8-1. Burke and Jarnigan also had an easy battle, beating Haynes and Wyrick 8-1 as well. In the last set, Kilgore and Galenksi defeated Hedges and Green 8-2.
The Cavaliers improve to 3-2 on the year and face the Shawnee State University Bears on Tuesday, Oct. 5 in Portsmouth, Ohio.
