Storylines – vs Queens University
Five-foot-seven junior guard Kristian Eanes has been the straw that stirs the drink for the Royals this season. A year after averaging over 10 points per game as a sophomore, Eanes has become her team's leading scorer at 16.6 points per game as a junior. What has been most impressive has been the guard's shooting ability inside the arc. Despite making just 18.8 percent of her 3-point field goal attempts, Eanes is connecting on 52.1 percent of her field goal attempts overall and has scored in double figures in all but one game this season. As a team, Queens is making just 39.1 percent of its shot attempts this season; however, the team is one of the best in the country in 3-point field goal percentage defense. To date, teams are making just 24.7 percent of their 3-point field goals against the Royals. The number leads the South Atlantic Conference and ranks ninth nationally among all NCAA Division II schools.
Senior Cynita Webb can make history Saturday as the forward can become the 21st player in program history to record 1,000 career points. Webb enters her 100th career game just seven points shy of the mark as she has scored at least nine points in each game this season while recording double figures in all but one contest. The game is a pivotal one for both UVA Wise and Queens University. The Cavaliers and Royals enter with identical 2-3 records in SAC play with the schools locked with Newberry in a three-way tie for seventh place. Freshman Caitlyn Ross continues to have one of the best freshman seasons in school history. The point guard has dished out 67 assists to this point and is on pace to set the single-season assist record which has stood since the 2005-06 campaign when Chelsea Lee posted 155 assists. So far, the Cavaliers have excelled at home posting a 4-1 record inside the Prior Center. The key to the team's home success has been UVA Wise's defense. At the Prior Center, opponents are making just 37.3 percent of their field goal attempts against the Cavs. Meanwhile, teams are making 47.5 percent of shot attempts against UVA Wise when Jamie Cluesman's team is playing away from Wise. Given those numbers and the Cavs 1-4 record in true road games, Saturday's game becomes even bigger when looking ahead at the schedule. Following the Queens contest, UVA Wise will play back-to-back road games at Lincoln Memorial University and at Wingate next week. Overall, the team is in the midst of playing eight of 11 games away from home.
