BEREA, Ky. - - Women's tennis picked up their third consecutive win in a 9-0 sweep over Berea College Saturday morning.
UVa-Wise (3-0) gave up just one game across all three doubles matches as sophomore Katya Akimenko and senior Aya Melhem gained an 8-1 win over Berea's Jaden Johnson and Ruth Ramos at No. 1 doubles.
At No. 2 doubles, sophomore duo Olivia Dishner and Grace Hall swept their opponents, 8-0, while freshman Megan Harwood and sophomore Lillian Morris won by the same score, 8-0, at the No. 3 spot.
Sophomore Liza Akimenko recorded her first victory of the day at No. 1 singles as she swept Berea's Agnes Dotse, 6-0, 6-0. Katya Akimenko, Melhem, Hall, and Harwood each blanked their opponents in singles play while Dishner topped Berea's Stephanie Itumba, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 singles.
Head Coach Danny Rowland's team will return to action next weekend on the road Saturday for a neutral site match against Fairmont State at noon followed by a home match against Milligan Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
