CHARLESTON, W. Va. - - Cavalier women's tennis suffered a 7-0 loss to the University of Charleston Saturday afternoon on the road. Freshman sisters Liza Akimenko and Katya Akimenko earned the only win of the day at the No. 1 doubles position.
At No. 2 doubles for UVa-Wise (2-11, 2-3 MEC), freshman duo Grace Hall and Lillian Morris lost 6-0 to the Golden Eagles (13-2, 3-0 MEC) while junior Aya Melhem and freshman Olivia Dishner fell at the number three spot, 6-2.
In singles play, Liza Akimenko dropped her match 6-0, 6-2 at the number one spot. Katya Akimenko was defeated 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 position while Melhem fell 6-2, 6-0 at the number three spot. Hill was topped at the No. 4 spot, 6-0, 6-1 and Hall was upset 6-1, 6-3 at number five. Dishner was swept at No. 6 as the Cavs fell 7-0 to Charleston.
UVa-Wise returns to action tomorrow on the road at West Virginia State. First serve is slated for 10 a.m.
