Cavaliers Topple Rams in 6-1 Victory

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. - - The Cavaliers snapped a four-match losing streak on Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 road victory against Shepherd University.

In what was the largest margin of victory for the team this season, the Cavs began the day with their first sweep in doubles play of the year. Freshmen Liza Akimenko and Katya Akimenko won at the No. 1 position 6-0 to improve to 4-2 as a pair in conference play. Junior Aya Melhem and senior Montana Hill took the No. 2 position 6-1 in their first pairing of the season, while freshmen Grace Hall and Lillian Morris won at the No. 3 position 6-4.

In singles play, Melhem quickly took the No. 3 position with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Freshman Olivia Dishner won at the No. 6 position 6-1, 6-1, while Hall suffered the Cavaliers' only defeat of the day with a 7-6, 6-4 loss at the No. 5 position. Liza Akimenko improved to 11-3 on the season with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 1 position. Katya Akimenko took the No. 2 position 6-1, 6-2, while Hill won her first singles match of the season in a 7-6, 6-2, 10-7 victory at the No. 4 position.

The Cavaliers will return to action Sunday morning when they play a non-conference match at Millersville University at 7 a.m. They will return home for non-conference matches on Wednesday against King University and on Saturday against Salem University before heading on the road for their final conference match on April 27 at Concord University.
