Cavs Fall in Singles Play to Bobcats

WISE - - The Cavaliers dropped a Mountain East Conference match against West Virginia Wesleyan College 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Jim and Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex.

Freshman Katya Akimenko and junior Aya Melhem teamed up to take the No. 1 doubles position 6-1, while freshmen Liza Akimenko and Grace Hall won at the No. 2 position 6-4 to give the Cavs the doubles point. Senior Montana Hill and freshman Olivia Dishner rounded out the Cavs' doubles teams, as they were defeated at the No. 3 position 6-0.

In singles play, Liza Akimenko won at the No. 1 position 6-0, 6-0 for her sixth straight win as she improved to 9-2 on the season. Katya Akimenko won her fourth straight singles match with a 7-6, 6-1 victory at the No. 2 position to improve to 8-4 for the year.

Melhem, Hill and Dishner fell at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 positions respectively, with Hall eventually falling 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 5 position as the Cavaliers lost their second conference match of the season.

The Cavs will head on the road for their next four matches with their next match at the University of Charleston on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Cavs next home match will be on April 17 when they host King University in a non-conference match.
