BRISTOL, Tenn. - -The Cavaliers suffered their first loss in conference play on Saturday afternoon in a 4-3 defeat against West Liberty University at the Bristol Racquet and Fitness Club.
Saturday marked the sixth time in their last seven matches that the Cavaliers (1-7, 1-1 MEC) lost the doubles point. Freshmen Liza Akimenko and Katya Akimenko provided the only win for the Cavaliers in doubles play as they defeated West Liberty (3-0, 1-0 MEC) freshman Chloe Riley and senior Laura Huwe 6-4 in the No. 1 position.Â
In singles play, Liza Akimenko won her third straight No. 1 position with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Hilltoppers freshman Raissa Wagner. Katya Akimenko defeated Riley 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 2 position, while junior Aya Melham won the No. 3 position 7-6, 6-3.Â
The Cavaliers will return to action on Friday afternoon when they host Fairmont State University at 3 p.m.
