Storylines – vs CONCORD

Ranked eighth in the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Poll, Kenny Osborne's Concord Mountain Lions are hanging on to a glimmer of hope of an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament following the team's 91-79 setback at home to West Virginia State Wednesday. The loss halted a four-game winning streak for Concord who enters Saturday's game with 21 wins, the most in school history. Led by the trio of Madison May, Riley Fitzwater and Adreanna Pool, the women combine to average 48.2 points per game. While May ranks fourth in the league in scoring at 18.8 points per game, Fitzwater leads the conference in blocked shots at 4.1 a night and Pool ranks third in 3-point field goal percentage among league players at 41.3 percent. Earlier this year, the Mountain Lions held off a furious fourth quarter comeback bid by the Cavaliers to claim a 73-67 win in Athens, W.Va. That day, Fitzwater made 8-of-9 field goals en route to 19 points while grabbing 13 rebounds while Pool connected on 3-of-4 3-point attempts.
UVa-Wise will honor seniors Janice Ladson, "Quick" Gomez, Ashley Cullen, Dakotah Turner and Alle Moore prior to tip-off Saturday as part of Senior Day Ceremonies. When the game begins, UVa-Wise will be trying to halt a two-game losing streak which includes a 74-59 loss to Charleston Wednesday. Despite the recent skid, Jamie Cluesman's team can finish no worse than sixth in the league standings after being picked last in the preseason coaches' poll. Assured of an opening round Mountain East Conference Tournament bye, UVa-Wise faces the possibility of playing Concord in back-to-back games if the team is the sixth seed. The Cavs can still move to the No. 5 seed with a win and a Notre Dame College loss to Urbana. If Cluesman's team is sixth, they will play at approximately 2:15 p.m. Thursday; the fifth seed would have UVa-Wise playing the final quarterfinal game of the day at around 8:15 p.m. In a loss to Concord earlier this season, redshirt sophomore Kalee Johnson came off the bench to tally 17 points while forward Cynita Webb scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. The Cavs had the game within two points with 90 seconds to play but would be unable to tie the score or take the lead down the stretch as Concord made six consecutive free throws to claim the win.
