Storylines – vs Notre Dame College
Losers of three of four, Notre Dame College plays UVa-Wise with fifth place in the league standings on the line Saturday afternoon. The Falcons are currently a game behind the Cavaliers with a 10-9 league mark but, with a win could move into a tie and hold the tiebreaker by virtue of a win in Wise earlier this season. Notre Dame is led by guard Seina Adachi; the 5-foot-7 junior is averaging a team-high 16.9 points per game. Recently, Adachi was named CoSIDA Academic All-District as she boasts a 3.85 grade point average in addition to her on the court accolades. In Notre Dame's 85-76 loss to Concord Thursday, junior guard Kyleigh Ramlow canned a career-high seven 3-pointers en route to a career-best 32 points. Despite her efforts, the Falcons were unable to hold a 17-point lead as the Mountain Lions made 18-of-25 free throws and scored 31 fourth quarter points to claim the road win.
On a season-long four-game winning streak, UVa-Wise can clinch a bye in the upcoming Mountain East Conference Tournament with a win at Notre Dame Saturday. Most recently, the Cavaliers claimed their largest margin of victory over a NCAA Division II opponent with a 100-51 triumph at Urbana University. In the win, six UVa-Wise players netted at least 10 points, including senior Dakotah Turner who scored a career-high 11 points and senior Ashley Cullen who scored a season-best 10 points. The hot-shooting Cavs made a season-high 59.7 percent of their field goal attempts while limiting the Blue Knights to just 27.9 percent shooting. Redshirt sophomore Kalee Johnson tallied 13 points to reach double figures for the third consecutive contest while fellow sophomore Hanna Oliver canned a quartet of 3-pointers to reach 14 points. UVa-Wise also enjoyed a wide margin on the glass as Jamie Cluesman's squad saw five players grab at least five rebounds en route to a 49-27 advantage. In its first meeting against Notre Dame, UVa-Wise fell behind 22-4 to begin the game and never recovered as the Falcons limited the Cavs to 31 percent shooting in a 64-53 win at the Prior Center. Notre Dame dominated the glass holding a 54-38 margin in the category. Following the game, UVa-Wise will return home to face Charleston on Wednesday before wrapping up the regular season against Concord next Saturday at home.
