About UVA WISE
UVA Wise saw its four game winning streak snapped in a 64-62 loss to No. 17 Anderson Saturday. The Cavs led by double digits in the fourth quarter but would be unable to hold off the preseason conference favorite Trojans as
Jamie Cluesman's team dropped to 1-1 in SAC play. Senior forward
Cynita Webb is the conference's reigning player of the week. The 5-foot-11 Webb averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds while making 13-of-22 field goal attempts. Her most impressive feat of the week may have been on the defensive end as she limited reigning SAC and Southeast Region Player of the Year Anderson's Alexy Mollenhauer to three points on 0-of-8 shooting. A year ago, UVA Wise defeated Bluefield State 87-51 behind a career-high 21 points from
Mackenzie King. The timing of Wednesday's game could not of come at a better time for King. The sophomore drained a trio of 3-pointers en route to a season-high 16 points in Saturday's game against Anderson. Freshman guard
Caitlyn Ross is off to one of the best starts of any player in program history. Through six games, Ross leads the league and ranks fourth nationally in assists at 7.2 per game. She is also adding 12.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while making 54.9 percent of her field goal attempts. Saturday's loss to Anderson marked the first time this season that UVA Wise had been held under 80 points. The Cavs currently rank second in the league and 21st nationally at 81.3 points per night. With a win UVA Wise would improve to 5-2 marking the team's best start since the 2016-17 season. The Cavs return to league play Saturday when the school makes its first ever trip to Catawba.
