WISE – The Virginia High School League's all-time kills leader will play collegiate volleyball at UVA Wise. Emili Brooks recently pledged her commitment to the program following her record setting prep career.
The sixth signee by head coach Kristen Salyer, Brooks is currently a four-sport star less than 20 miles from the UVA Wise campus at Big Stone Gap's Union High School. A three-time first-team all-state selection in volleyball, the 5-foot-11 middle/outside hitter was named district and region player of the year in back-to-back seasons as a junior and senior.
"We are thrilled for Emili to join our volleyball program," remarked Salyer. "With the returners to our team and the six newcomers, I feel the future is bright for UVA Wise Volleyball."
Earlier this fall, she eclipsed the state's all-time kills record as she finished her career with 1,819 kills to surpass the previous record by more than 100 kills. The newest Cavalier was coached in high school by UVA Wise Hall of Famer Kim Moore who was a standout student-athlete at the school before later serving as head coach of the college's volleyball program.
A four-time all-district selection, she was also a three-time, first-team all-region honoree on the volleyball court. The multi-sport athlete has also amassed numerous awards in the sports of basketball and softball, including recently being named WCYB – TV Female Athlete of the Week for her work on the basketball floor.
The daughter of Kenneth and Brandi Brooks, Emili chose UVA Wise because of its proximity to home and the small town atmosphere on campus. She plans to pursue a degree in physical therapy when she arrives to campus in the fall.
