NEWBERRY, S. C. – Volleyball fell in straight sets to the Wolves of Newberry College Friday evening on the road, 3-0 (252-8, 25-13, 25-19).
Newberry (4-8, 2-6 SAC) jumped out to an early 14-5 lead over the Cavs to open the first set. The Wolves maintained the advantage taking the first set, 25-8.
UVa-Wise (1-11, 0-8 SAC) fell behind to start the second set as Newberry went ahead 18-10 into a Cavalier timeout. A kill for the Wolves wrapped up the set as UVa-Wise dropped the second 25-13.
The Cavs suffered another slow start in the third set but used a 5-1 run to pull within one point, 10-9, out of a Newberry timeout. The Wolves managed to extend their lead as they went on to take set three, 25-19.
Redshirt senior Ciara Kian led the Cavs with eight kills and hit a season-high .412 along with six digs. Sophomore Kelsey Green posted five kills while Zoe Avery notched a team-high 12 assists. Senior Morgan Milligan registered 13 digs followed by senior Briana Kerr who finished with nine digs on the night.
Head coach Kristen Salyer's team will stay on the road to play Anderson (S.C.) tomorrow at 2 p.m.
