ANDERSON, S.C. – The Cavaliers were routed by Anderson University (S.C.) Saturday afternoon on the road, 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-15).
UVa-Wise (1-12, 0-9 SAC) jumped out to an early 6-2 lead to open the match, but the Trojans won nine consecutive points to come from behind and gain an 11-6 advantage. Anderson continued to extend its lead, going up by double-digits, 20-10, later in the set before taking the first, 25-13.
Anderson (11-2, 8-1 SAC) took the lead to begin the second set as UVa-Wise tried to stay close, but the Trojans would go on to win the set, 25-15.
The Trojans had all the momentum into the third set, surging to a double-digit, 12-2, lead as the Cavs called a timeout. Anderson never relinquished the advantage as the Trojans took set three, 25-15, for a 3-0 sweep over UVa-Wise.
Redshirt senior Ciara Kain tallied a team-high eight kills alongside a .316 attack percentage. Junior Brooke Abbott notched seven kills and hit a team-best .333 in the match. Senior Morgan Milligan dished out 20 assists and added a match-high nine digs in the loss.
Head Coach Kristen Salyer's team will return home for a pair of weekend matches against No. 23 Wingate University Friday night at 7 p.m. before taking on Coker University Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. inside the David J. Prior Convocation Center.
