WISE – Women's tennis fell to Milligan College Wednesday evening, 4-3, at the Jim and Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex.
Milligan secured the doubles point with a pair of wins. Sophomore Katya Akimenko and senior Aya Melhem were defeated at No. 1, 6-4, while sophomore Liza Akimenko and fellow sophomore Grace Hall posted a 7-5 victory at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3, freshman Megan Harwood and sophomore Lillian Morris fell 6-3 to their opponents.
UVa-Wise had three singles wins with Liza Akimenko picking up her second win of the day at the number one spot in a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Milligan's Minda Martin. Katya Akimenko had a strong showing in a 6-2, 6-0 win at the number two position while Melhem earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory at number three. Harwood (6-0, 6-3) and Hall (6-4, 6-0) both dropped their matches at the number four and five spot, respectively, while sophomore Olivia Dishner (1-6, 6-1, 1-0(10-2)) was outlasted in a tiebreaker loss at the number six spot.
Head coach Danny Rowland's team will return to action this weekend taking on King University on the road Saturday at noon.
