Cavalier Men Host West Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday Night

The Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan visit UVa-Wise Wednesday night as Jack Meriwether's team attempts to earn a season sweep of the Cavaliers. West Virginia Wesleyan earned its second Mountain East Conference victory of the season against the Cavs in December, 81-69. Currently, the Bobcats are on a two-game win streak after defeating Shepherd, 75-66, and Glenville State, 94-83, at home last week. This season West Virginia Wesleyan is averaging 71.2 points per game and shooting 46.3 percent from the floor. Junior forward Dusan Vicentic leads the team in scoring with 15 points per contest and shooting 48.8 percent from the field. The Bobcats are posting 24.9 rebounds per game, nearly 12 less rebounds per game than opponents, led by Vicentic who is registering five boards per game. Junior guard Luka Petrovic is the team's assist leader, dishing out 6.1 assists per game and averaging 2.1 steals per game. Following Wednesday's contest, the Bobcats will return home for games against Concord University and Charleston.

Seeking their first win of 2019, Blake Mellinger's team will take the floor against West Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday night following a close game at Concord Saturday afternoon. UVa-Wise was edged by the Mountain Lions in a one-point 83-82 loss. The Cavaliers were led in scoring by freshman forward Kaeleb Carter who recorded a season and career-high 21 points, going 6-for-8 from behind the arc. Junior Eric Okenchi also scored in double figures with 18 points while redshirt freshman Briggs Parris and freshman Cameron Whiteside netted 16 and 12 points, respectively. Senior Rahji Langford led the team with a career-high eight rebounds and seven assists. The Cavs will look to build off of a strong second half of shooting at Concord, connecting on 20-of-32 shots (62.5 percent) from the floor. On average, UVa-Wise is scoring 83.2 points per game on 43 percent shooting from the field and making almost three more three-point field goals per game than opponents. The Cavs will look to improve their percentages at the line after shooting just 40 percent at the charity stripe against Concord, posting a 67.2 free throw percentage so far this season. After Wednesday's matchup, UVa-Wise will open February on the road at Glenville State before returning to the Prior Center for a three-game home slate.
