Storylines – vs Wheeling Jesuit
Wheeling Jesuit enters Saturday's game against UVa-Wise in a near must-win situation. The Cardinals have lost nine consecutive games and are in last place in the Mountain East Conference. If first-year Head Coach Mike Llanas has any hope of making the league tournament it must start winning games soon. The Cardinals are getting beat on average by nearly 16 points per game and rank last in the league in field goal percentage at 35.7 percent. Senior forward Chenelle Moore has been a bright spot for Wheeling Jesuit. Moore is averaging 15.3 points and 12.5 rebounds per game while making 47.2 percent of her field goal attempts on the season. The team's only other player scoring in double figures is Khira Burton. A 5-foot-4 guard from Cincinnati, Burton is scoring 14.7 points per game while dishing out 2.3 assists per contest. No other player is averaging more than 6.5 points per game. Over the last six contests, the Cardinals have lost on average by 27.2 points per game with each loss coming by double digits. Following the game, Wheeling Jesuit will play six of its next seven games on the road where the team is winless this season.
UVa-Wise will attempt to halt a two-game losing streak at Wheeling Jesuit Saturday. The Cavaliers have won two consecutive games against the Cardinals, including a buzzer-beating win in Wheeling last year thanks to Cynita Webb. Most recently, UVa-Wise dropped a 78-73 decision at West Liberty despite a 25-point performance from sophomore Ada Stanley. Webb also turned in her eighth double-double of the season and her thrid consecutive as she posted 13 points and 14 rebounds. Hanna Oliver also tallied double figures for the first time since playing at Bluefield State on Dec. 19 as she posted 12 points on 5-of-13 shooting. Jamie Cluesman's team has been pounding the glass, Thursday the team won the battle of the boards 45-to-30 while enjoying a +2.6 rebounds per game margin on the season. Free throw shooting has been an issue for the Cavaliers, the team shot just 13-of-20 from the foul line Thursday and is making just 65.7 percent of its attempts on the season, the number ranks eighth out of 12 teams in the Mountain East Conference.
