MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. - - Women's tennis dropped its match against Milligan College Saturday afternoon, 6-3.

UVa-Wise (0-2) claimed wins at both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles position to take a 2-0 lead over Milligan College (1-0) heading into singles play. Freshman Katya Akimenko and junior Aya Melhem paired up at the number one spot to defeat Milligan's Lexie Hill and Chessa Jones, 8-6. Freshmen Liza Akimenko and Grace Hall won at the number two position, 8-3, over the Buffs' Minda Martin and Marliena Peterson. Sophomore Gabrielle Beville and freshman Lillian Morris were outlasted at the No. 3 doubles position by Milligan's McKenzie Grady and Karson Light.

Katya Akimenko played at the No. 1 singles spot for the Cavs as she earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Milligan's Hill. Melhem battled at the No. 2 spot, but would fall to the Buffs' Jones, 6-4, 6-4. At the number three position, Hall fell to Milligan's Light, 6-4, 6-1, while senior Montana Hill was defeated by the Buffs' Martin, 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Oliva Dishner dropped her match at the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-2, as Beville fell at the number six spot, 6-2, 6-0.

The Cavs will return to action next Saturday, Sept. 22 as they face Mars Hill University on the road. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
