WISE - - UVa-Wise men's tennis dropped its non-conference match against Milligan College Saturday afternoon, 6-3. The Cavaliers celebrated senior day as the team recognized Chris Armistead, Viktor Tunnikov, and Andrii Rutnytskyi.
UVa-Wise (3-14, 1-6 MEC) had its first win of the day at the No. 2 doubles position with senior duo Armistead and Tunnikov posting a 8-6 win over Milligan's Josh Crain and Charlie Moseley. At the No. 1 spot, Rutynytskyi and Ethan Herron dropped a tough match against the Buffs' Mason Grear and Taylor Graalman. Coleton Burke and John Hamilton fell 8-1 to their opponents at number three doubles.
At No. 1 singles Rutnytskyi dropped a close match to Milligan's Grear, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8, while Tunnikov was upset at the number two position, 6-3, 6-1. The Cavs earned wins at both the No. 3 and No. 4 spots as Armistead battled at number three with a 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 victory while Herron defeated the Buffs' Crain, 6-3, 6-1. Burke was routed at the number four spot, 6-1, 6-1 while Hamilton suffered a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Milligan's Joe Lyttle at the No. 6 singles spot.
UVa-Wise will wrap up its season on the road with another non-conference matchup against King University on Monday, April 16. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
