Box Score WISE - - Men's tennis fell 6-3 to West Liberty University Saturday afternoon in the Cavaliers' first conference match of the season at the Jim and Betty Humphrey's Tennis Complex. Ethan Herron had a win at No. 1 doubles alongside senior Andrii Rutynytskyi and added a victory at No. 4 singles. Chris Armistead earned another Cavalier win at No. 3 singles.
The Cavs' (0-5, 2-12) Rutnytskyi and Herron defeated Camilo Moncayo and Nicholas Liddy, 8-3, at the top doubles spot to open up the day. At No. 2 doubles, senior duo Viktor Tunnikov and Chris Armistead fell 8-4 while Coleton Burke and John Hamilton were defeated by Hayden Blazer and Zach Kirkwood, 8-2, at the number three position.
Rutnytskyi was upset in a tough battle at the No. 1 singles spot, 6-3, 7-5, by Moncayo. Tunnikov fell to Liddy at the number two spot, 6-2, 6-2, while Armistead had a 6-4, 6-4, victory at the No. 3 position. Herron earned his second win of the day at the No. 4 spot with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Matt Lynch. Burke and Hamilton were swept, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 5 and No. 6 position, respectively.
UVa-Wise will visit King University for a non-conference match on Monday, April 4, at 4 p.m.
