Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. - - Men's tennis dropped its conference road match against the University of Charleston on Sunday morning, 9-0.
The Cavaliers' (2-7, 0-2 MEC) Andrii Rutnytskyi and Ethan Herron had a strong showing at the top doubles spot as the duo were edged 8-5. Seniors Viktor Tunnikov and Chris Armistead won three games at the No. 2 doubles spot as the pair were defeated, 8-3. At the number three spot, Coleton Burke and John Hamilton were swept, 8-0.
Rutnytskyi played at the No. 1 singles position for the Cavs, defeated by Charleston's Ben Lakeman, 6-2, 6-1. Tunnikov fell 6-1, 6-2 at the number two spot while Armistead managed to win three games in each set, 6-3, 6-3, as he was defeated by the Golden Eagles' Thomas Andrews at number three. At No. 4, Herron dropped his match, 6-1, 6-3, against Charleston's Alek Gracin. Burke was defeated at the No. 5 position, 6-1, 6-2, while Hamilton fell 6-0, 6-1 to the Golden Eagles' Keith Williamson at the number six spot.
The Cavs will take a break from league play as UVa-Wise faces Lees-McRae on Wednesday, Mar. 21, at 6 p.m.
