Box Score CHARLESTON, W. Va. - - UVa-Wise men's tennis (2-6, 0-1 MEC) fell 9-0 in its conference opener against West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday.
At the number one doubles position, Andrii Rutnytskyi and Ethan Herron fell 8-2 while Viktor Tunnikov and Chris Armistead fell by the same score at No. 2 doubles. Coleton Burke and John Hamilton were swept at the number three spot, 8-0.
Rutnytskyi was routed at the No. 1 singles position by Wesleyan's Lukas Laipold, 6-1, 6-0. Tunnikov would fall in a tough tiebreaker, 6-0, 7-6(9-7), 10-7, at the number two spot. Armistead would drop his match to the Bobcats' Alex Lyudinovsk at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1, while Herron fell 6-0, 6-3 to his opponent at the number four position. Both Burke and Hamilton were swept, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions, respectively.
Men's tennis will return to action tomorrow taking on the University of Charleston at 9 a.m.
