Storylines – vs West Virginia Wesleyan
Picked 11th in the Preseason MEC Coaches' Poll, West Virginia Wesleyan has found life after starting the season 0-4. Third-year coach Vicky Bullett has her Bobcats on a two-game winning streak entering Wednesday's contest with back-to-back wins over Shepherd University and Fairmont State University. Abi Gabauer has been the main reason why West Virginia Wesleyan has turned it around. In the two wins, Gabauer is averaging 17 points and seven rebounds while making 14-of-26 field goal attempts. She is the only player on the team to average in double figure scoring the season. The Bobcats have struggled from beyond the arc making just 23 shots from beyond the 3-point line in six games. WVWC has also failed to find success at the free throw line making just 57 percent of its attempts as a team. In its win over UVa-Wise last year, the Bobcats limited the Cavaliers to 15-of-62 shooting while winning the battle of the boards 53-45. That night, UVa-Wise connected on just 8-of-20 free throw attempts while WVWC made 14-of-18 attempts.
UVa-Wise will look to go back above the .500 mark in league play after a 72-55 setback at conference leader University of Charleston. Freshman Mackenzie King has provided a spark off the bench for Coach Jamie Cluesman in the least three games. The forward is averaging 13.3 points per game over the stretch, including a season-high 21 in an 87-84 win over West Virginia State. Junior Cynita Webb continues to be a dominant force on the interior. Despite being plagued by foul trouble, Webb tallied 10 points, five rebounds and two steals in 18 minutes of play at Charleston. Redshirt sophomore Kalee Johnson is returning to form after missing the first five games of the year. Johnson registered 10 points at Charleston after tallying six points against West Virginia State. Traditionally, the Cavaliers have had success against the Bobcats having won nine of the first 10 meetings and four-of-five in Buckhannon.
