Storylines – vs. Lincoln Memorial University
After a 2-2 start to the season, the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters will visit the David J. Prior Convocation Center Saturday afternoon. Head Coach Josh Schertz enters into his 11th season with the men's basketball program following a 32-2 overall mark during the Railsplitters' 2017-18 campaign as the team went undefeated against South Atlantic Conference opponents. Last year the program had an impressive run, capturing the SAC tournament title and finished the season with a No. 1 rank in the national poll as well as being named regular-season conference champions. Redshirt junior guard Cornelius Taylor returns this season after leading last year's squad averaging 14.5 points, 3.9 assists, and 2.2 rebounds per game. So far this season, Taylor leads his team in scoring with 21.3 ppg while redshirt sophomore guard Cameron Henry ranks as the top rebounder averaging 6.3 per contest. As a team, the Railsplitters are averaging 83.3 points and 46.5 rebounds per game while shooting 43.3 percent (122-for-282) from the floor. Lincoln Memorial was tabbed once again to win the SAC regular-season title this year as the team opens conference play on Wednesday against Carson-Newman.

Blake Mellinger's squad enters into the fourth game of his teams' five-game home stand Saturday afternoon for a non-conference matchup against Lincoln Memorial University. UVa-Wise is coming off a 97-86 loss to Notre Dame College following a 2-0 start at home this season. Sitting at a 3-2 mark, 1-1 in the Mountain East Conference, the Cavaliers will look to get their first win over the Railsplitters since 2012. UVa-Wise has put up solid numbers offensively to start the season with four players averaging double figures while the team has posted 84.4 points per game and shot 43.6 percent (151-for-346) from the floor. Michal Seals has been incredible through the first five games of the season, averaging 20.6 points, 7.8 assists, and five rebounds, while shooting 50 percent (37-for-74) from the field. Junior forward
Eric Okenchi has nearly averaged a double-double with 10.4 points and 8.6 rebounds and shooting over 50 percent from the floor. Freshmen
Briggs Parris and
Cameron Whiteside also have averaged double-digits to start with 16.2 and 10.6 ppg, respectively. The team is winning the rebounding battle against opponents with a +3.2 rebounding margin, averaging 43.2 boards per game. UVa-Wise has also added 16.4 assists and 7.6 steals per contest thus far. The Cavs will look to secure their third non-conference win of the season before jumping back into league play on Wednesday against the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets.
