STORYLINES – VS. ALICE LLOYD COLLEGE
Alice Lloyd College comes to Wise, Virginia with a 2-3 record after posting wins against Warren Wilson College and Welch College to start their 2018-19 season. Alice Lloyd closed out last year with a 15-13 overall record, averaging 95.8 ppg and advancing to the National Christian College Athletic Association Mideast Regional Tournament where the Eagles were ousted by Bluefield College. The Eagles return this season led by junior Blake Smith who averaged 17.6 ppg last year while shooting 50 percent from the field and 81 percent from the charity stripe. The team returns four more from the 2017-18 season including senior forward Simon Christon, senior guard Ryan House, sophomore guard Noah Young, junior guard Ian Lee, and junior forward Chance Cornett who averaged 11.2 ppg and 5.1 rebounds per game last year, while welcoming seven newcomers to the squad. The Eagles were tabbed seventh overall, sixth in the west division, in this year's River States Conference men's basketball preseason coaches' poll as Smith was named to the preseason team.

The Cavalier men return home following a 1-1 weekend at the Earl Lloyd Classic held in Institute, West Virginia. Briggs Parris went off in a 31-point performance, tying the program's individual single-game record for three-point field goals made (9) as he went 9-for-14 from beyond the arc. The team made more history that night as they tied the team single-game record for most three-point field goals made (18), going 18-for-34 (52.9 percent) from downtown. Junior guard
Michal Seals had a strong showing, posting a double-double with 18 points and 10 assists alongside eight rebounds in the season opening win. Seals would continue his hot start into the Cavs game against the Vikings as he notched his 1,000th point during the contest. The 5-foot-10 guard now sits at 1,010 points to start the season placing him 32nd on the all-time leading scorers list. With just two games under their belt, Seals leads the team currently averaging 22.5 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists per game.
