URBANA, Ohio - - Volleyball dropped its first match of the weekend against Urbana University Friday night on the road, 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-15).
Freshman Kelsey Green led the Cavs with 10 kills while sophomore Brooke Abbott posted five kills. Junior Morgan Milligan registered 14 digs while sophomore Makayla Ledford tallied 21 assists and 13 digs in the match.
UVa-Wise (4-14, 1-5 MEC) and Urbana (15-7, 4-3 MEC) would tie the game early at 4-4 before the Blue Knights went on a 6-0 run to take a 10-4 lead over the Cavs to open the first set. UVa-Wise would fight its way back to a two-point deficit, down 14-12 to Urbana. The Blue Knights would continue to extend its lead with an 18-12 advantage as the Cavaliers took a timeout. UVa-Wise managed to shift momentum as they battled back to get within two points of the Blue Knights late in the first set, 24-22. Urbana would take the last point on a kill as the Blue Knights outlasted the Cavs in set one, 25-22.
Urbana jumped out to a double-digit lead early in the second set, 14-4. UVa-Wise would go on a 4-0 run later in the set to cut the Cavs deficit to six points, 23-17, but Urbana would go on to take set two 25-17 and a 2-0 lead heading into the third set.
The Blue Knights opened up the third set with a 5-0 run before the Cavs climbed their way back to tie the set at 7-7 on a kill by Green. The two teams would tie the set two more times before Urbana made another run to take a 15-11 advantage. The Blue Knights would continue to extend their lead as they took set three, 25-15.
 The Cavs totaled 29 kills with 26 assists and 44 digs while Urbana had 43 kills and 41 assists in the match.
UVa-Wise is back in action tomorrow on the road against Notre Dame College. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
