Storylines – vs. Glenville State
Glenville State will visit UVa-Wise after going 1-1 in back-to-back home games against West Virginia Wesleyan and Concord. The Pioneers' earned their second conference win of the season against Wesleyan, 71-65. In the win, Glenville had an impressive night of shooting, going 27-for-49 (55.1 percent) from the field. Stephen Dye's team currently sits at 3-15 overall and 2-11 in the Mountain East Conference. Sophomore guard Darhius Nunn leads the Pioneers in scoring, averaging 18.8 points per game and shooting 40.6 percent from the floor. Nunn is also the assists leader for Glenville, posting 3.2 per game. Sophomore guard Brooks Ely records for the most rebounds for the Pioneers, averaging 4.9 boards per game. This season the Pioneers are putting up 73.1 ppg while opponents are averaging 85.0 ppg. Glenville is shooting 42.4 percent from the floor and 70.5 percent from the free throw line. Dye's squad is averaging 36.1 rpg and 11.1 assists per contest. The Pioneers are committing 13.1 turnovers and 6.3 assists per game. Glenville State will continue its road trip as they travel to West Virginia State for a Thursday night matchup. The Pioneers will then return to the Waco Center to host Charleston on Saturday afternoon.

UVa-Wise managed to halt a six game losing streak to earn its first win of 2018 on the road against West Virginia Wesleyan, 61-50. With the win, the Cavs improved to 7-12 overall and 5-8 in the Mountain East Conference after suffering two setbacks at home against West Virginia State and Concord, losing both games by three points or less in overtime. Against Wesleyan, redshirt senior forward Taiwo Badmus netted 32 points on 10-for-16 shooting, hitting 5-of-10 from downtown and 7-of-8 from the foul line. Senior guard Ricardo Hill Jr. assisted the Cavaliers with a season-high 13 points while sophomore forward Yesid Mosquera-Perea put up 11 points. Sophomore guard Michal Seals led the team in assists with 12 and added seven rebounds in the win. The Cavalier men continue to struggle from the floor in the first half but improved greatly in the second half, shooting 50 percent from the floor. Badmus remains the Cavs leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 20.2 points and 9.7 rebounds per contest. Seals leads UVa-Wise and the MEC in assists, averaging 7.1 per game. Following Saturday's matchup, the Cavaliers will get back on the road to take on No. 1 West Liberty on Feb. 1 and No. 23 Wheeling Jesuit on Feb. 3.
