Seniors Carey, Cluesman and Sandidge to Play Final Home Game Saturday

Storylines – vs Concord
Regardless of Saturday's outcome, Concord's season will come to a close. The Mountain Lions were eliminated from Mountain Eat Conference Tournament contention following Thursday's 54-36 loss to Charleston. Olivia Morgan scored a team-high 13 points while Danielle Catron netted 10 in the loss. It was the fourth loss in five games for the Mountain Lions who rank 11th in the league in field goal percentage defense (.437) and 3-point field goal percentage defense (.342). The 36 points scored by Concord in the loss at Charleston marked a season low for Kenny Osborne's squad who has failed to score more than 65 points in 12 games this year. Despite the tendency to lack the ability to score, Concord had one of its better offensive performances of the year in its first meeting against UVa-Wise. The Mountain Lions shot 44.3 percent from the floor and made 10 3-pointers en route to a season-high 91 points in a loss. Alexis Lowery pumped in 24 points to lead all scorers while Catron chipped in 18 off the bench. Rebounding could be an issue for Concord as they lost the battle of the boards 42-28 in the first meeting.
About UVa-Wise
Seniors Kayla Carey, Makenzie Cluesman and Taylor Sandidge will play their final game in the Prior Center Saturday. The trio has helped turnaround the women's basketball program at UVa-Wise as the team is one win shy of its first 20-win season in over a decade while also being one win shy of securing the No. 3 seed in next week's league tournament. Each senior scored in double figures in Thursday's loss at West Virginia State  while the group has combined for 67 double-digit performances this season. Sandidge can move into seventh all-time in scoring at the College before her career ends as her 1,365 points are 45 points behind Chelsea Cluesman. Cluesman has hit a 3-pointer in 28 straight consecutive games while Carey made her 100th career start at West Virginia State. With a win, the Cavaliers would play either West Virginia State or Shepherd University at 2:15 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinal round of the MEC Tournament at the Charleston Civic Center. To insure that occurs, UVa-Wise will have to win its fifth consecutive game over Concord. In the first meeting between the two schools this season, the Cavs received a game-high 22 points from sophomore Ashley Cullen en route to a 97-91 win in Athens, W.Va. Cluesman (19), Sandidge (16) and Carey (15) also finished in double-figure scoring as Kristin Kunzman's team shot 57.1 percent from the floor.
