Storylines – vs Edinboro
The Fighting Scots shocked the country with their 89-79 win over No. 2 Virginia Union yesterday. In the win, a trio of Edinboro players registered 20 or more points, led by Michelle Jahn's 22 point outburst. The Fighting Scots shot 48.5 percent from the field in the win and were able to overcome losing the battle of the boards 52-39. Edinboro led wire-to-wire in the win and led by 11 entering the fourth quarter. Virginia Union got within four but junior Jontay Walton stopped the run with eight fourth quarter points. Ciara Rosten added the first double-double of her collegiate career as she netted 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Coach Stan Swank elected to give his starters the bulk of the minutes as all five starters played north of 30 minutes. Edinboro did not play any bench player more than nine minutes and the trio of Jahn, Walton and Rosten scored all 23 fourth quarter points against Virginia Union. Edinboro and UVa-Wise last played in 2014 with the Fighting Scots taking a 78-65 win.

Cynita Webb scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to record the first double-double of her collegiate career but cold shooting and turnovers proved too much to overcome in UVa-Wise's season opening 56-47 loss to Millersville. The Cavaliers led by five points in the fourth quarter after one of freshman Hanna Oliver's four 3-pointers but the team would go scoreless for over six minutes as the Marauders rallied for the season opening victory. UVa-Wise received just two bench points in the loss despite 12 players seeing action.
Elise Clyburn's team turned the ball over 27 times which led to 25 points for Millersville. The Cavs did enjoy an advantage from beyond the arc and on the glass. UVa-Wise made eight 3-pointers against Millersville and won the battle of the boards 44-40. Three UVa-Wise players made at least two 3-pointers while a trio of Cavs had seven or more rebounds. Ashley Cullen and Bianca Lockamy had a pair of 3-pointers each while Oliver finished 4-of-8 from distance in her collegiate debut. The Cavs started fast out of the halftime intermission against Millersville, UVa-Wise held the Maruders to eight third quarter points to erase a six-point halftime deficit. Overall, UVa-Wise limited Millersville to 30.2 percent shooting and and a 2-of-12 showing from beyond the arc. Following the game, the Cavs will return home for their home opener Wednesday against Lincoln Memorial University.Â
