WISE - - UVa-Wise volleyball fell to West Virginia State University 3-1, (12-25, 25-14, 25-23, 26-24) on Wednesday night.

The Cavs (6-20, 2-10) dominated in the first set as they took a 13-1 lead over the Yellow Jackets (13-13, 5-7). UVa-Wise did not let up, earning an 18-7 advantage late in the set. The Cavs would win the first set 25-12. West Virginia State managed to control the second set as the Yellow Jackets won by a score of 25-14 over the Cavaliers.

UVa-Wise started out strong in the third set, taking an early 5-0 lead over the Yellow Jackets. West Virginia State cut the lead to just two points, 14-12, later in the set. The Yellow Jackets were able to come back and take the lead late in the set, 21-18. The Cavaliers continued to battle, cutting West Virginia State's lead, 22-21. The Yellow Jackets narrowly won the third set, 25-23.

West Virginia State toggled the lead with the Cavaliers to begin the fourth set, before the Yellow Jackets took a 15-11 advantage. UVa-Wise continued to fight as the Cavaliers tied the game, 18-18, forcing a timeout by the Yellow Jackets. The Cavs took the lead by a score of 22-19, but West Virginia State stayed within reach as they cut the Cavaliers lead to one point, 23-22. The Cavs tied the game, 24-24, but back-to-back points by the Yellow Jackets would give West Virginia State a 26-24 victory to win the match.

Junior Ciara Kain registered a double-double with 22 kills and 19 digs. Sophomore Morgan Milligan posted 21 assists while fellow sophomore Briana Kerr recorded 21 digs. Freshman Makayla Ledford posted a double-double with 15 assists and 10 digs.

UVa-Wise will play a double-header on Saturday, Nov. 4 as the Cavaliers host West Liberty University at noon and Wheeling Jesuit at 2 p.m.
