PLEASANT GARDEN, N.C. - - Cavalier men's cross country competed in the Hagan Stone Classic on Saturday. UVa-Wise placed fourth among Division II schools with a total time of 2:31:42 and averaged a pace of 30:20 in the 8k race. Freshman Ryan Wright and juniors Stephen Bath and William Law all set personal records in the race. Duke University Club XC was the only team to compete at the Division I level while four teams competed at Division III.
Law finished 27th in the race among 85 runners and set a personal record with a total time of 28:18 and averaged a pace of 5:41. Setting another personal record, Bath finished in 41st place with a time of 29:12. Freshman Austin Beavers completed the race with a time of 30:05 and a 49th place finish. Sophomore Tanner Redinger finished 64th as he posted a time of 31:57 while Wright came in 65th place at 32:09. Senior Antonio Kyle completed the race with a time of 34:16 and a 70th place finish.
Among Division II schools, Louisburg College placed first in the competition with a total time of 2:13:36 and averaged a time of 26:43. Charleston finished second with a total time of 2:14:56. Andris Goncarovs placed first among all schools with a time of 25:29 while Jack Mastandrea of Louisburg College finished second as he recorded a time of 25:51.
The Mountain East Conference Championships are next for UVa-Wise men's cross country. The race will take place in Bridgeport, W. Va. on Oct. 21.
