Storylines – at No. 6 Wheeling Jesuit University
The Cavs face their second top-10 opponent in back-to-back games Monday evening. After taking on fourth-ranked West Liberty University Saturday, UVa-Wise takes on the 14-1 Cardinals who are currently ranked No. 6 according to the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll. It will be the fourth game this season the Cavs have matched up against an opponent ranked in the national poll at the time of the contest. UVa-Wise is seeking its first win against a ranked opponent since upsetting then 14th-ranked King University (100-87) in the David J. Prior Convocation Center last season on Dec. 20, 2015.

Wheeling Jesuit is 8-1 in Mountain East Conference games this season and is coming off of a tightly contested 83-80 home win over Concord University Saturday. The Cardinals' lone loss in 2016-17 was back on Nov. 30 when then 11th-ranked Fairmont State University earned a 95-92 overtime win in Wheeling Jesuit's Alma Grace McDonough Center. Since that defeat, Wheeling Jesuit has won nine-straight games.

UVa-Wise is 1-6 against the Cardinals since joining the MEC before the 2013-14 season. The Cavs' lone victory over Wheeling Jesuit came on Jan. 5, 2014, when UVa-Wise picked up an 84-72 road win in Wheeling behind Deon Boyce's double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Led by head coach Danny Sancomb in his 10th season, the Cardinals are 28-6 in home games since the 2014-15 season.

Wheeling Jesuit features four different players averaging 13 points or more per game, including junior forwards Pat Moseh (15.2 ppg) and Haywood Highsmith (15.1 ppg), freshman guard Preston Boswell (13.4 ppg) and senior forward Kyle Ritz (13.1 ppg). Highsmith averages a double-double and is near the top of the league in rebounds per game with 11, while Moseh (3.0 apg) and junior guard Jarin Hilson (2.9 apg) lead the Cardinals in assists.
