Box Score BRISTOL, Tenn. – UVa-Wise men's basketball was handed a 93-67 non-conference loss Sunday afternoon at rival and nearby King University in Bristol, Tennessee. The hot-shooting Tornado (6-5) made 13 3-pointers and connected on 58.8 percent (38-of-65) of their field goal attempts to defeat the visiting Cavaliers (2-8), shooting 60 percent (21-of-35) and scoring 50 points in the opening half.
UVa-Wise struggled to find its offensive rhythm early as King began to knock down shots. After an 8-8 tie four and a half minutes into the contest, the Tornado went on a 12-0 run and held the Cavs scoreless for six minutes of play. King continued to outscore the Cavs 14-8 over the four minutes and built an 18-point advantage at 34-16 with 5:42 to go in the first half.
A 7-2 spurt by the Tornado gave King its largest lead of the opening half at 43-22 just under the three minute mark. An old-fashioned 3-point play by freshman point guard
Michal Seals (Lancaster, Pa.) capped a 10-3 UVa-Wise run, making it a 14-point game at 46-32 with 44 seconds remaining in the first half. King made two layups to close the half and took a 50-32 lead into the break.
The Tornado went 6-of-12 from long distance in the first 20 minutes of play and held a 14-0 advantage in fast-break points. The Cavs were held to 36.4 percent (12-of-33) shooting in the first half and went 0-for-8 on 3-point attempts. Redshirt sophomore forward
Dimitri Sousa (São Paulo, Brazil) scored 16 first-half points for UVa-Wise, accounting for half of the Cavs' points.
Four quick points by King and a two minute scoring drought by UVa-Wise to start the second half gave the Tornado a 22-point advantage. A layup by King's Malcolm St. Louis capped a 13-3 Tornado run that put the home team up 67-38 seven minutes into the second half. King got its largest lead of the game with 10:04 to go after Je'Don Young sunk a 3-pointer to put the Tornado up by 30 at 72-42.
UVa-Wise made its most impressive run of the game during a four and a half minute stretch of play in the final nine minutes. A Sousa layup with 4:28 remaining capped an 18-6 Cavalier run and trimmed the deficit down to 18 at 80-62.
However, King outscored UVa-Wise 13-5 over the final four minutes to earn the 93-67 victory. The Tornado shot 56.7 percent (17-of-30) in the second half and went 7-of-15 (46.7 percent) from beyond the arc. Ten different Tornado players scored in the second half. The Cavs shot better in the second 20 minutes of play, going 14-of-32 (43.8 percent) from the field but 2-of-8 from long range.
All told, King outscored UVa-Wise 31-11 in points off the bench and finished 13-of-27 (48.1 percent) from 3-point land. The Cavs ended the game 26-of-55 (40 percent) from the field, including 2-of-16 from deep, and went 13-of-20 at the free-throw line. UVa-Wise claimed 48 of its 67 points inside the paint.
Sousa led all scorers with a game-high 22 points on 10-of-17 shooting, to go along with eight rebounds and two blocks. Redshirt junior forward
Taiwo Badmus (London, England) was held to under 20 points for the first time in five contests, finishing with 14 points and six boards. Seals tallied 10 points and dished out three assists. Making his collegiate debut, freshman forward

St. Louis led King with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds, while C.J. Good scored 16, Hunter LeVeau 13 and Mack Owens 12. The Tornado's Derick Pope earned eight points and five rebounds off the bench for King as Young totaled seven points.
The Cavs will have 10 days off from competition for the Christmas holiday before returning to game action on Wednesday, Dec. 28, for an exhibition matchup at NCAA Division I Eastern Kentucky University.
