WISE, Va. - UVa-Wise travels to Jefferson City, Tennessee, Wednesday night for its first true road game of the season, taking on Carson-Newman University at 7:30 p.m.

The Cavaliers face a 2-0 Eagles squad that earned a pair of victories this past weekend. Carson-Newman defeated Southern Wesleyan University 106-83 Friday night in its season opener before taking down Lander University 88-75 in an away game Saturday afternoon. Wednesday night's matchup will be the Eagles home opener after going 9-7 in Jefferson City last season.

Junior guard Charles Clark, senior forward Sawyer Williams and junior guard Shaun Jones lead Carson-Newman, while five different Eagles are averaging double-figure scoring after two games played. An All-South Atlantic Conference First Team selection a year ago, the 6-foot-2 Clark was tabbed as preseason first-team All-SAC this season and is averaging 17 points per game. A second-team All-SAC honoree last season, 6-foot-8 Williams is averaging 14.5 ppg and 8.5 rebounds per game through two contests after being named preseason All-SAC First Team. Jones at 6-foot-4 leads the Eagles in rebounding with 11 per game while also averaging 14.5 ppg. Sophomore guard Malik Abraham (12.5 ppg) and freshman guard Cameron Holmes (11.5 ppg) are the other two players averaging double-digit scoring for Carson-Newman. Sophomore guard Zack Pangallo has dished out a team-high eight assists for the Eagles so far this season.

Carson-Newman was picked to finish fourth in the SAC preseason poll after a vote by the league's head coaches, ranking behind Queens University of Charlotte, Wingate University and defending national champion Lincoln Memorial University. The Eagles went 16-13 overall in 2015-16 and finished 12-10 in conference play, falling in the SAC quarterfinals Wingate.

After defeating Elizabeth City State University 100-97 in overtime in the Cavs' season opener Friday evening, UVa-Wise fell 88-77 to Virginia Union University Saturday afternoon. The Panthers, who are receiving votes in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) preseason top-25 poll, used a second-half surge to defeat UVa-Wise after trailing 41-38 at the half. Virginia Union outscored the Cavs 50-36 in the second half and outrebounded UVa-Wise 45-32 to earn the neutral-site victory.

Taiwo Badmus (London, England) has played extremely well in his first two games as a Cav, posting 29 points and 21 rebounds in UVa-Wise's win over Elizabeth City State. Chance Sheffey (Staunton, Va.) has provided a huge spark off the bench for UVa-Wise in his first two collegiate games, averaging 19.5 ppg on 57 percent shooting.
