Box Score WISE - - Blair Harding came off the bench to score a game-high 22 points to lead a quartet of Cavaliers in double figure scoring as UVa-Wise handed Concord an 87-58 Mountain East Conference defeat at the Prior Center Thursday.
The margin of victory was tied for the largest margin of victory of the year for UVa-Wise (7-8, 3-8 MEC) who broke a six-game losing streak with the win.
Inserted into the starting lineup, Allison Ball and Makenzie Cluesman made an immediate impact. Cluesman got the scoring started for the Cavaliers with a jumper before Ball swished a 3-pointer to give her club a 5-4 lead.
Ball's bucket was the start of a 12-2 run that propelled UVa-Wise to a 16-11 lead after the opening quarter.
Concord (3-13, 2-9 MEC) struggled to keep the game close over the remainder of the half. The Mountain Lions shot 35.7 percent in the second quarter but surrendered 44.4 percent to the Cavs while allowing the hosts to go to the line 12 times in the period.
UVa-Wise made eight of the 12 foul shots to outscore the visitors by five at the stripe during the stanza as they outscored Concord 26-14.
Leading 42-25 going to the third quarter, the Cavs never let off the accelerator. A Harding 3-pointer with 25 seconds to play in the third period gave her club a 69-34 lead as the game moved to the fourth quarter.
Back-to-back free throws by Taylor Sandidge gave UVa-Wise its biggest lead of the game at 85-41 with 4:15 to play.
Concord finished the game on a 17-2 run for the final margin of 87-58. Lindsey Overbay led the visitors with 17 points on eight of 10 shooting. Kylie Molisee and Alexis Lowery netted 11 points
Cluesman posted a season-high 15 points and freshman Alle Moore recorded the first double-double of her career with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Natalia Saar recorded the best offensive game of her UVa-Wise career as well with 12 points. The Curitiba, Brazil native did not miss any of her five field goal attempts.
The Cavs won the battle of the boards 45-28 and collected 19 second chance points in the process.
It was UVa-Wise's second consecutive win over Concord; the Cavs scored a 77-59 win over the Mountain Lions in the opening round of last year's MEC Tournament.
Next up for UVa-Wise is a trip to Charleston on Tuesday. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. from Charleston Catholic High School.
