PIPPA PASSES, Ky. - - Playing its second former NAIA rival in as many matches, the men's tennis team at UVa-Wise stopped its two-match losing streak by cruising to a 9-0 victory over host Alice Lloyd in the Eagles' season opener.
Coach Danny Rowland's Cavaliers did not lose a set in singles play by claiming each match by scores of 6-0, 6-0.Â
The Eagles only managed to pick up a game in a pair of doubles matches, losing 8-1 in both second and third doubles in the team's only non-conference affair of the year. The remaining four matches will be against Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes.
The win was the third of the year for UVa-Wise who has also collected victories against West Virginia State and Southern Virginia University.
