About UVa-WiseUVa-Wise is coming off its first home loss of the season, a 90-80 setback to Glenville State College. Fatigue seemed to plague the Cavaliers as coach
Kristin Kunzman's team led for the majority of the first half and entered the fourth quarter trailing by just two points. Junior center
Kayla Carey notched her sixth consecutive double-figure scoring performance as she posted a game-high 21 points in defeat. The Knoxville, Tennessee native also finished with 11 rebounds to record her first double-double of the season. This will be UVa-Wise's third non-conference game of the season; thus far, the Cavs are 2-0 outside of MEC play and have outscored their opponents 140-121 in those contests. Following the game, UVa-Wise will take a week off before playing local rival King University in the team's final non-league tilt of the season. A year ago, the Cavs scored an 80-64 victory over the Golden Bears as
Blair Harding connected on a career-high eight 3-pointers. Harding's eight makes from distance led a UVa-Wise attack that hit 14 3-pointers in the win. Harding registered a career-high 33 points in the victory while
Katie Jo Dockery, Carey and
Taylor Sandidge also finished in double-figure scoring. The most impressive stat of last year's victory was the assist number coach Kunzman's team produced. The Cavs made 26 field goals in the win and assisted on 25 of the makes. This season, UVa-Wise is averaging 14.5 assists on 24 made field goals per game. Sunday's game against West Virginia Tech is the lone game UVa-Wise will play this season against a non NCAA Division II institution.
