Volleyball Drops a Pair of Matches on Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRISTOL,Tenn . – Host King University won its fifth match of the season against UVa-Wise by posting a 25-17, 25-16, 25-21 victory on Saturday. King used 15 players in the three set match, five of which played all three sets to improve to 5-3 on the season.
 
UVa-Wise (1-4) started the first set strong winning the first three points. King would come back to tie the set at three points apiece. Wise would then jump out to a 7-5 lead on a kill from Lindsey Tucker, who was assisted by Veronica Sanchez. From there the Tornadoes would make an eight point run stretching the lead to 13-7 in the host team's favor. King would not look back as they would go on to win the match by eight points 25-17, on a kill by Olivia Underwood on a set from Brooke Calhoun.
 
The second set started the same way the last set ended. King would jump out to a 12-5 lead in the set and The Cavaliers would not be able to overcome the deficit and would drop the set 25-16 to the Tornadoes.
 
The third set appeared the most competitive for the Cavaliers as they trailed 14-7 early in the set then would comeback within two points on a set from Brittni Altmann and kill by Karley Allen making the score 22-20. The Cavaliers would be unable to finish the comeback and dropped the set 25-21.
 
Karley Allen of the Cavaliers led all players in kills with 15 whilst Veronica Sanchez led the Cavaliers in assists with 23. For the Tornadoes Summer Kramer and Lauren Willoughby led King with 7 kills. Olivia Underwood led all players in the game with 27 assists.
 
The day's other match the Cavs dropped a 25-10, 25-20, 25-22 decision to Southern Wesleyan.  Allen had 10 kills in the loss while Sanchez posted 25 assists.
 
UVa-Wise will return to play on Tuesday when the team has their home opener against Bluefield State at 6:30 pm.
