Men's Tennis Suffers Setback at Milligan

MILLIGAN, Tenn. - - The UVa-Wise men met a familiar opponent on Tuesday in the program's first ever match as a member of the Mountain East Conference as the team faced longtime conference rival Milligan College.  The host Buffaloes scored a 6-3 victory over the visiting Cavaliers in the season opener for both schools.

In individual play UVa-Wise saw Tanner Crowder score his first ever collegiate victory by posting a straight set (6-0, 6-4) victory over Chris Heldham.  Meanwhile, sophomore Vladyslav Akimenko continued the momentum from his strong freshman season to defeat Colin Bumann in number one singles play.  Akimenko took set one 6-3 and had a 5-0 lead in the second set before Bumann was unable to continue the match, the final UVa-Wise victory came by Oleg Kopychenko who outlasted Jackson Denoir 3-6, 6-3, 10-5.  Full results of the event are available below:
