W.Va. Wesleyan Scores Final Four Points to Defeat UVa-Wise

Box Score BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - - Host West Virginia Wesleyan College completed a season sweep of UVa-Wise by claiming a 3-1 (25-12, 25-17, 23-25, 25-23) win on Friday.  The Bobcats tallied four block solos and six block assists while Erin Bond posted a match-high 15 kills in aiding the team to victory.  As a team, Wesleyan finished with a hitting percentage of .269 and 10 service aces.

The Bobcats (13-16) jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first set and never trailed en route to a 25-12 set win.   UVa-Wise (7-20) was limited to just six kills in the set while committing eight attack errors.  Wesleyan enjoyed its strongest set of the match in terms of hitting as the team had 13 kills against just three errors.

Kristen Salyer's Cavaliers prevented the Bobcats from jumping out to an early lead in the second set as the two schools were knotted at 14 mid-way through the set.  Wesleyan would finish the set on an 11-3 run to claim the set.  The 11-3 spurt was highlighted by a 6-1 run to stretch the advantage to 20-15 as Camblin Leonard and Shannon Gregorek each had a pair of kills in the rally.

UVa-Wise won its lone set of the match in the third set as the visitors overcame a 22-17 deficit to win the set.  Veronica Sanchez posted back-to-back aces and Karley slammed home one of her team-high 13 kills to complete the 8-1 run to win the set to 25-23.  The Cavs had a strong set in terms of hitting percentage by finishing with 13 kills and just five errors.

Wesleyan would use a 6-0 run to break a 13-13 tie and held off a late rally to win the set and match with a 25-23 win.  The Cavs would recover from the 19-13 deficit and take a 23-21 lead only to see the Bobcats score four straight points, two on hitting errors by the Cavs, to secure the victory. 

Santana Bishop tied Allen for team-high kill honors with 13, Brittni Altmann added 12 digs, and Veronica Sanchez handed out 36 assists for UVa-Wise. 

Wesleyan's Casey Pattyn's 42 assists were a match-high as were the 14 digs by Hannah Moore.  Moore also produced 10 kills for the Bobcats.

The Cavs will complete the 2013 regular season on Saturday with a trip to Glenville State.  First serve is set for 1 pm.
