The University of Virginia's College at Wise Athletics

A native of Lynchburg, Va., Maya Hamlett enters into her fouth season as an assistant coach for the UVA Wise volleyball program.

Hamlett is currently a mathematics teacher at Wise County Public Schools since July 2016 and also serves as a long-term substitute for Dickenson County Public Schools.

She graduated from UVA Wise in August of 2016 with a degree in mathematics as she was named to the Dean’s List for five semesters. Hamlett is a member of numerous organizations, including Theta Phi Alpha Fraternity, Darden Honors Society, Sigma Theta Honors Society and the Delta Epsilon Iota Honors Society.

Hamlett also founded and ran a youth volleyball league program that provided instructional training for fifth, sixth and seventh graders in the Wise, Va. and Pound, Va. area.

The UVA Wise alum also assists with bookkeeping during the UVA Wise men’s and women’s basketball season and tutors lower-level math classes at the college.
