REGISTRATION & SCHEDULING

Having an appropriate course schedule is a critical component of being a successful student-athlete at UVa-Wise. Student-athletes are encouraged to register on their respective priorty date in order to take advanatge of the most optimal scheduling opportunities possible. Considerations for student-athletes include competition and travel season and practice schedules. It is the responsibility of each student-athlete to work closely with their faculty advisor AND the Associate Athletic Director for Academics and/or Faculty Athletic Representative.

STUDENT-ATHLETE STEPS FOR REGISTRATION:

1) The Course Schedule is loaded into the myuvawise portal and students are notified via college email.
2) Review course schedule and develop your optimal schedule.
3) Set a meeting with faculty advisor to discuss your schedule and get registration clearance. In this step your faculty advisor must literally click a button in the portal to grant you clearance to register.
4) Get approval from Associate Athletic Director for Academics or Faculty Athletic Representative (in person or via email).
5) Take care of any additional holds (other than the "athletic hold").
6) The myuvawise portal opens in a series of priority dates for students to register for courses in the upcoming semester. On your priority date, login to the portal and enroll in classes.

**The athletic hold that you see is a warning asking you to confirm with Kendall Rainey or Dr. Tom Costa that your schedule meets NCAA eligibility requirements. When it says "warning" you can make schedule changes in the portal. When it says "hold" you must have approval to make schedule changes.**

DECLARING A MAJOR

Per NCAA rules, a student-athlete must officially declare a major prior to their fifth semester of college, and from that point forward the credit hours used for athletic eligibility must be toward the declared degree. General education requirments may also count.

Per UVa-Wise policy, a student must officially declare a major after completion of 45 credit hours. Student-athletes should discuss any potential changes in major with the Associate Athletic Director for Academics or the Faculty Athletic Representative PRIOR to changing their major to ensure progress toward degree requirements can be adequately met.

All UVa-Wise academic policies can be found in the College Catalog.

“And yet not a dream, but a mighty reality – a glimpse of the higher life, the broader possibilities of humanity, which is granted to the man who, amid the rush and roar of living, pauses four short years to learn what living means.”
