Kya Moore Named Assistant Volleyball Coach

WISE – The University of Virginia's College at Wise (UVA Wise) Head Volleyball Coach Alexis Ivey recently announced that Kya Moore will be joining her staff as Assistant Volleyball Coach. Moore comes to Wise after spending the last year completing her playing career as a graduate student at Shaw University and coaching with Carolina Advantage Volleyball.

Moore is a native of Raleigh, North Carolina and was a member of the University of Tennessee volleyball team for four seasons, competing for three seasons as a defensive specialist while completing her B.A. in Sports Management with a minor in Business Administration and her M.S. in Management and Human Resources. The Lady Vols made NCAA Tournament appearances during her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons culminating in the sweet sixteen in 2023. She led the team in aces per set in 2020 and was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll each year she was eligible.

During her time in Knoxville, Moore was very involved off the court as well, serving as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the VOLeaders Academy, a graduate research assistant, and participating in the Tennessee – Rwanda Leadership Experience. These leadership experiences set a solid foundation for the new coach.

Following graduation from Tennessee, Moore played one graduate season of volleyball at Prairie View A&M where she aided the team to the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament (SWAC) semi-finals. She completed her collegiate playing career in fall 2025 at Shaw where she lead the team to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA) Tournament finals and was named CIAA All-Tournament Team, Second Team All-CIAA, and CIAA Setter of the Week.

Coach Ivey stated, "I'm super excited for Kya Moore to join our coaching staff. She brings a high level playing experience and strong volleyball knowledge to the program. She's someone who understands what it takes to play at a high level, and I can't wait to see the impact she will have on the development of the program and student-athletes."

Ivey and Moore are preparing for the start of the 2026 season, which opens on Aug. 28 as the Cavs take on Lander University in the Redderson Inviational in Greenwood, South Carolina.
