WISE – UVA Wise used a first-half run to build up a double-digit lead over Carson-Newman, but a second-half surge by the Eagles resulted in the 85-70 win over the Highland Cavaliers Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UVA Wise opened the game on a strong note, with
Kam Roberts scoring a jumper and a fast-break layup within the first minute, assisted by
Yoro Diallo and
Cy Hardy, respectively. The home team used a run to make the lead 10-2 following a dunk by Diallo at 15:51, after which Carson-Newman called a timeout. Despite efforts from Carson-Newman, including a three-pointer by Jack Browder at 14:33, the Cavaliers held the lead throughout the half. A dunk by
Evan Ramsey made the UVA Wise lead 27-14 with 6:41 remaining. Despite a late run by the Eagles to cut the lead to five points, the Cavs finished the first half ahead, 29-24, following two successful free throws by
Patrick Shelley with 1:02 remaining.
- In the second half, Carson-Newman came out and cut the lead to two with an early run, but the Cavs answered back and made the lead nine points again. C-N then went on a 14-5 run to tie the game at 42-42. The Eagles then scored six quick points and held off two UVA Wise comeback attempts before going on an 8-0 run. They extended their lead to double-digits on the back of several free throws down the stretch and held on for the 85-70 win.
GETTING WISE

Patrick Shelley and
Evan Ramsey led the way for UVA Wise with 21 points apiece. Shelley was 6-6 from the free throw line and had two assists. Ramsey led all players on the boards with eleven rebounds in addition to three assists and two blocks.

Yoro Diallo had nine points, eight rebounds, and four assists.

Cy Hardy scored five points and had five assists as well as two steals.
- The Cavs and Eagles tied in rebounding with 36 rebounds apiece.
