HOW IT HAPPENED
- UVA Wise freshman
Mia Nienaber, playing on the court her father played on in the late 1990s, opened the scoring for the Highland Cavaliers with a three-pointer, assisted by
Madison Looney, at 9:07. Lincoln Memorial responded swiftly, as Keiara Anderson drained a three-pointer at 7:48, leveling the score. Looney helped the Cavs take an 11-7 lead, only for LMU to come back and take the lead. After
Caroline Mullins gave the Cavs a late lead, LMU's Kallie Housley hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give the home team a 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- After the teams tied at 19-19, LMU then built their lead with a 13-0 run. Despite a pair of Mullins free throws and a late three-pointer by Nienaber with four seconds remaining, Lincoln Memorial maintained ended the half with a 32-24 advantage.
- LMU opened the third quarter with an 8-0 run. Despite efforts from the Highland Cavaliers, including a layup from Looney at 5:50, turnovers and missed shots hampered their ability to close the gap. Lexi Patty sealed the quarter with a layup at 0:39, giving the Railsplitters a 53-30 heading into the final quarter.
- Mullins sparked a strong start for the Cavs in the fourth quarter with a layup at 9:07, assisted by Nienaber, and added another basket shortly after to cut the deficit. Mullins continued her performance with a jumper and another layup, contributing significantly to the Cavs' 20-point quarter. Despite their efforts, Lincoln Memorial's Collier responded with key plays, including a layup at 7:24 and free throws at 3:21, to maintain their lead.
Grace Vyborny's assist to
Shelby Higgins for a three-pointer at 2:33 highlighted the Highland Cavaliers' push, but the Railsplitters held on for a 67-50 victory.
