WISE – The UVA Wise football team returns home Saturday evening for a meeting with the 23rd ranked Wingate Bulldogs. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on the Beaty-Richmond Field at Carl Smith Stadium.
UVA Wise trails Wingate in the all-time series 5-0 and will be going for their first win of the season Saturday evening.

GETTING WISE
- A bright spot last week at Catawba was the running game, anchored by sophomore
Daniel Thomas. Thomas had a career night as he ran for 256 yards and two touchdowns. That set a new NCAA-era program record for yards and trailed the all-time program record by 33. Thomas also had a long reception for 62 yards. He currently leads the SAC in yards per game.

Jake Corkren and the passing game also had a decent outing last week as Corkren was 11-21 for 175 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 50 yards and scored a rushing touchdown.
DJ Powell was the main target, tallying six catches for 95 yards and a touchdown. Powell ranks fourth in the SAC in receiving yards a game.

Brub Hines III led the team in tackles with ten, while
Elijah Matthews,
Nasir Spruill, and Matthew Strong had seven each.
ABOUT WINGATE
- The Bulldogs enter the game with a 2-0 record, including a 72-7 win over Bluefield State last week.
- Against BSU they ran for 334 yards with 4 TDs and passed for 241 more with 6 TDs. Elijah Holmes was 12-16 for 203 yards and five touchdowns, while it was running by committee with eight different players running with the ball.
- Holmes is fifth in the SAC in passing yards per game and tied for the lead in passing TDs. Xavier Pugh is third in yards per game and rushing TDs.
