BRISTOL, TN – The UVA Wise men's tennis team opened their 2025-26 season by competing in the King Invitational on Saturday. The one-day event featured several teams from around the area and featured both singles and doubles matchups.
In doubles play the duo of
Mustafa Raja and Hsin-Nui Hsieh went 2-0 with wins over duos from King and Lees-McRae. Raja then teamed up with
Yi-Hsuan Chen to claim a win over Lincoln Memorial.
Miguel De Rueda and
Daniel Gonzalez Garza won both of their matches over King and LMU. Chen and
Chathurya Nilaweera fell to opponents from King and Lees McRae, while later Nilaweera teamed up with Hsieh and fell to LMU.
Genis Ribas and Mario Viana de la Torre won over King and Lees-McRae and fell to LMU.
In singles,
Ege Uzun went 1-1 with a win over King, while
Miguel Ruiz fell to the player from LMU in his lone match of the day. The remainder of the matches were against King, with Gonzalez Garza, DeRueda,
Dmitrii Semenov, Raja, and Ribas all picking up wins while Chen and Nilaweere lost in hard-fought matches.
UP NEXT
The team will make the short trip down US 58 to compete in the LMU Invitational on September 20.
