WISE – The host team went 1-1 in the 2025 Cavalier Classic as UVA Wise fell to Concord 3-0 and defeated Davis & Elkins 3-0 Friday afternoon on the Quillen Court in the David J. Prior Convocation Center.
This is the third year for the Classic, which features several local and regional schools each year.

VS CONCORD
- The set opened with some initial back-and-forth play, the Mountain Lions pulled ahead with a series of points, including a 5-0 run that widened their lead to 14-8. Late in the set,
Riley Brandon and
Annabelle Dowell contributed key kills, but the Mountain Lions maintained their advantage, closing at 25-18.
- Set 2 began with the Mountain Lions taking an early lead, but the
Mia Poag made a significant impact with a series of kills, including three consecutive points at 7-3, 7-4, and 8-5, all assisted by
Piper Suddeth. Despite efforts to close the gap, the Mountain Lions capitalized on a series of errors and extended their lead to 20-15. The set concluded with the Mountain Lions securing a 25-17 victory, despite a late kill by Suddeth.
- In a tightly contested Set 3, the Highland Cavaliers displayed resilience against the Mountain Lions, ultimately falling short with a 25-22 score.
Morgan Blankenship led the charge for the Cavs, recording multiple kills. UVA Wise managed a late surge, highlighted by back-to-back blocks from
Mable James and Blankenship to narrow the gap to 24-22, before a service error concluded the set.

Piper Suddeth recorded 25 assists and added nine digs across three sets for the Cavs. Blankenship contributed eight kills and led the blocking efforts with four total blocks.
Abigail Curtis tallied 13 digs and six assists. Poag led the team in kills with nine, adding three digs to her performance.
VS DAVIS & ELKINS
- The first set opened with a strong start from the home team, as
Morgan Blankenship delivered a kill from
Abigail Curtis to secure the opening point.
Piper Suddeth's service ace followed quickly after, helping build an early lead. Despite a few exchanges, the Cavaliers consistently extended their advantage, with Blankenship repeatedly finding success at the net, contributing to a 6-3 lead.
Madilyn Pardue's service run, highlighted by two aces, was instrumental in widening the gap to 21-12. Ultimately, the Cavs continued their effective play, closing the set with a 25-15 victory.
- The second set saw the Cavs hit almost .800 in the opening minutes as they rolled out to a 15-1 lead, eventually closing the set with a decisive 25-8 victory, capped by a kill from Blankenship, one of her six kills in the frame.
- The third set began with UVA Wise trailing the Senators 8-1, but a resilient comeback effort saw the home team close the gap and eventually seize control after tying the set at 15-15. Key contributions came from
Braelynn Williams, whose back-to-back kills at 15-13 and 15-14 helped seal the comeback, while
Riley Brandon's decisive kill tied the score at 20-20. Blankenship and Poag each recorded critical kills, with Poag's final point from Suddeth sealing a 25-23 victory for the Cavs.
-Suddeth contributed significantly with 19 assists, three service aces, and eight digs, demonstrating her versatility on the court. Blankenship led the attack with 13 kills and added two blocks, accumulating 14 points overall. Brandon recorded nine kills with a .500 hitting percentage and contributed three blocks, totaling 10.5 points.
Annabelle Dowell stood out defensively with five total blocks, aiding the team's efforts significantly at the net. For the game the team hit .293
