WISE -- Three UVA Wise softball student-athletes -
Bayleigh Allison,
Adyson Gibson, and
Abagail Mills - have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Softball team.
Allison earns this honor after making 19 appearances in the circle for the Cavs, where she pitched 60.2 innings and had a 4.15 ERA. She led the team with 44 strikeouts and allowed only 36 earned runs.
Gibson, a sophomore from Gate City, Virginia, was third on the team in hitting with .321 and had 45 hits, 33 runs, two home runs, and 15 RBI. She led the team in stolen bases with 13.
Mills earns a spot on the team for the second consecutive year. The senior from South Riding, Virginia, had 25 hits, 17 runs, and 20 RBI while hitting .245 last season. She also had five doubles and was a perfect 3-3 in stolen bases.
The Academic All-District® Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court/field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Nominees must be at least a sophomore with at a 3.5 grade point average or higher. They must also have played in a specific number of games/matches or started a specific number of games/matches. Some sports have extra criteria, like track and field nominees needing to win or place highly in the regional rankings. The number of nominees are limited within each respective sport and the at-large team (which comprises golf, lacrosse, beach volleyball, field hockey, and several other sports).
