GREENEVILLE, TN – UVA Wise and Tusculum battled back and forth for nearly four hours before the Cavaliers rallied in the eleventh inning to take the 8-7 win Tuesday evening.
The two teams are not meeting in South Atlantic Conference play this season and with the win they split the two meetings this season as Tusculum won in Wise on March 4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cavs scored twice in the top of the first as
Bernard Creque and
Jake Smith scored on a pair of RBI singles. They added a run the next inning as
Dalton Chapman scored on a sacrifice fly.
- The score stood until the bottom of the fifth, when the Pioneers scored twice, followed by a solo home run in the sixth that tied the game at 3-3
- The Cavs pulled ahead by three runs in the top of the eighth on a pair of singles and a wild pitch. Tusculum answered back in the bottom of the inning as a three run homer and error allowed them to take the 7-6 lead.
- UVA Wise scored again on a wild pitch in the ninth to tie the game. It then went to extra innings.
- In the top of the eleventh a single by Chapman scored
Carter Babb, putting the Cavs ahead. They then shut down the Pioneers 1-2-3 in the bottom of the eleventh to grab the 8-7 win.
GETTING WISE

Dalton Chapman and
Morgan Miller were both 2-5 from the plate to lead the Cavs. Chapman also had two RBI and scored twice.

Mason McAlarnis picked up his first win of the season and his career as he entered in the ninth inning and went three hitless innings while fanning five Pioneers. One of those was Tusculum's Max Schmarder, who set a new TU record on Saturday with a 29-game winning streak, that ended with a 0-5 night that was sealed by a strikeout by McAlarnis in the eleventh.

Daniel Kanagy started the game and went three innings with four strikeouts and only one hit.
- The Cavs improved to 14-39 all-time vs Tusculum and 7-23 in Greeneville with the win.

The Cavs are off for nine days before closing out the regular season with a three-game SAC series at Limestone on April 26-27. First pitch for Friday's series opener is set for 5 p.m. in Gaffney, South Carolina.
